Dear Neighbors

Dear Neighbors,

I had prepared a more colorful message for you to say how grateful I am for your support in our first week. But today, as the COVID situation continues to worsen, I cannot think about anything else but our own safety.

So, I’m sorry to announce that I won’t be outside taking photos or talking to anyone until things have gotten better. The interviews you will see after this was done before the lockdown.

However, the most important thing is your health, both physical and mental. I don’t need to remind you how to protect yourself from Covid-19, but I see that there are two big issues that have probably also been weighing heavily on our minds. The first is how the government is mishandling the situation and constantly insulting us. I would suggest building a fence around it and to minimize it if you can. If you can’t do this, then you must release it in any way you can, both your anger and sorrow. This is not a time to stay positive, believe me.

The second issue is the misery of others – something which I have found impossible to ignore. There are many people whose lives depend on functioning public health and social care, and these people are simply being abandoned. I am not sure how best to deal with this mentally. I’ll be posting stories of these people I have interviewed so far very soon.

I feel it’s like when your plane is going through turbulence, and you need to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. Take care of yourself first, make sure you have a safe space, someone to talk to. Don’t forget to take good care of and give respect to yourself and your surroundings. At least for me, this helps.
