ชาวต่างชาติที่อาศัยในย่านอารีย์ต่างชื่นชอบความไม่จอแจ ความร่มรื่น และกิจกรรมหลากหลาย ชาวต่างชาติคนนี้เพิ่งเสร็จจากกิจกรรมโยคะยามเช้า และอธิบายให้เพื่อนของเธอฟังถึงความฝันเมื่อคืน ว่าเห็นอารีย์ดูคับคล้ายคับคลาแต่ก็ต่างจากเดิม และกำลังเปลี่ยนไปในชั่วข้ามคืน การเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็วของร้านรวงต่าง ๆ คือสิ่งที่ชาวต่างชาติที่กลับมาเยี่ยมอารีย์อีกครั้งมักพูดตรงกันเสมอ

Foreigners love Ari for its slower lifestyle and greenery. This lady has just finished her morning yoga session and is now sitting in a cafe talking to her friend about the strangest dream, in which she saw Ari being familiar but not quite the same, and about to change again overnight. Due to shops changing hands rapidly here, this is what a lot of foreigners who return to Ari often say.

ริชาร์ด: สวัสดีจิลลี่!

จิลลี่: สวัสดีจ๊ะ … (สั่งอาหาร) ขอน้ำเปล่าค่ะ

(พูดกับริชาร์ด) เธอรู้ไหม เมื่อคืนฝันว่าฉันตื่นเช้ามาปกติ 

กำลังจะเปลี่ยนชุดแล้วจะมาโยคะแบบที่ทำทุกวัน 

แต่พอฉันเดินออกจากคอนโดมา ทุกอย่างเปลี่ยนไปหมดเลย 

มันเปลี่ยนไปหมดเลยจริง ๆ 

นอกจากคอนโดฉันแล้ว ร้านทุกร้านหายไปแล้วมีร้านใหม่มาแทนที่ 

ร้านชื่อแปลกๆ ที่ฉันไม่รู้จัก 

ฉันพยายามตามหาร้านที่ไปประจำแต่มันหายไปแล้ว 

ผู้คนก็เหมือนกัน ไม่มีลุงคนนั้นที่นั่งอยู่ที่เดิมทุกวัน ไม่มีป้าที่ขายขนมไทย 

ไม่มีบ้านหลังนั้นที่มีเสาโรมัน ไม่มีหมาแฝดสี่ที่อยู่ในบ้านฝั่งตรงข้ามถนน 

ฉันสับสนมาก ฉันพยายามเดินหาคนที่ฉันรู้จักแต่ก็ไม่เจอ 

คนที่ฉันเจอผู้คนที่เหมือนตัวละครในเกม ถูกโปรแกรมให้เดินไปเดินมา 

แต่ตอบคำถามนอกเหนือจากที่ระบบป้อนไว้ไม่ได้ 

ฉันกลัวมากเลย นี่มันไม่ใช่อารีย์แล้ว นี่มันที่ไหนกัน ฉันอยู่ที่ไหน 

แล้วฉันก็เจอแอนดี้ แต่แอนดี้ ไม่ช็อกเลย นางบอกว่า ทุกอย่างโอเค ไม่เป็นไร 

นางจะพาฉันเดินดูแล้วจะแนะนำให้รู้จักที่นี่ใหม่เอง 

นางบอกว่าไม่ต้องตกใจ ที่นี่ก็เป็นอารีย์เหมือนเดิม 

แต่พอผ่านชั่วข้ามคืน ทุกอย่างมันก็เปลี่ยนไปแบบนี้แหละ ชั่วข้ามคืน ไม่ใช่เป็นปี บ้าไหมล่ะ 

พอนางแนะนำให้ฉันรู้จักทุกอย่าง มันก็เย็นพอดี 

แล้วนางก็บอกว่าคืนนี้อย่าหลับนะ ถ้าเธอไม่หลับ เธอจะได้เห็นว่าทุกอย่างค่อย ๆ เปลี่ยนไปยังไง 

ฉันก็พยายามไม่ให้ตัวเองหลับ นั่งรอดู แต่สุดท้ายฉันก็หลับไปในฝัน 

แล้วก็ตื่นขึ้นมาเช้านี้ กลับมาโลกแห่งความจริง 

ดีใจมากเลยที่ทุกอย่างยังเหมือนเดิม

Richard: Hi Jilly!

Jilly: Hi! … (to a waiter) and a glass of water please, thank you.

(to Richard) You know I had the strangest dream last night. 

It was so bizarre; I woke up in the morning, finished getting ready for the yoga class and as soon as I stepped out of the condo it was like… I don’t know… everything’s changed? But it feels like it’s the same. And, everything seems so unfamiliar.

Things that used to be there are replaced with something else. Do you know Dice, the cafe at Soi 2? It’s replaced …with something similar but it’s not, like with a name I have never heard before. 

I walked around, and tried to find a place I CAN remember but they’re all gone but also kinda still there… *giggles*

Same with people too. That old man on the corner is no longer sitting there. The Thai dessert lady in the morning was gone. Remember that house with the roman columns, gone… and on the opposite side, the house with a bunch of brown dogs, all gone.

It was just hazy… oh wow did you order? 

Ooh, can I have a bite of that? 

This is good. I’m gonna have to order this next time.

Right, and instead of real people, everyone I saw on the street was like programmed to be there you know? It was creepy. They only walked around and they couldn’t answer any questions that they were not programmed to answer.

Shit, I was scared, it was not Ari anymore. What is this? Where am I? Am I even real? So, I asked NAME. He was totally unfazed by any of this, by the way. He was like, yeah calm down. Everything’s fine. It’s just Ari changing overnight. Not over years but over a NIGHT. Yeah, it’s that surreal.

So, we walked around and he reintroduced me to things… by the time we were done it was already late in the afternoon. He said try not to sleep tonight so you’ll see Ari changing again before your eyes. 

I tried not to sleep… but at some point, I couldn’t keep my eyes open

Then in my dream, I fell asleep and I woke up in real life

…I’m so happy that everything is back to normal now.
